Board of Directors
The C.A.R.E. Board is composed of 9 volunteers with unique talents and professional backgrounds. The Board is responsible for organizational planning, creating policy, fundraising and supporting the public image of C.A.R.E.
As of December 2008, 100% of the Board of Directors has contributed to C.A.R.E.
Benji Phillips, Chairman 
Presides at board meetings, appoints committee chairpersons, plays a leading role in fundraising activities, and acts as a public spokesperson for the organization. Served since 2007
Benji Phillips operates his own brokerage, Viridian Properties, and among his specialties is helping coach clients through avoiding foreclosure. Benji has seen first hand the incredible impact that housing can have on families, and shares C.A.R.E.’s mission in his personal and professional life. He has a long history of working within the community, from partnering with Rebuilding Together, to organizing educational trips for high school students. While working with students, Benji came to understand the significance of social services for the development of children. He hopes to be able to engage others to get involved with C.A.R.E. through sharing his passion about their common goals. A graduate of University of California, Los Angeles with a degree in Political Science, Benji has a decade of business experience. He is a licensed California Real Estate Agent.
Sabrina Daneshvar, Ph.D., Secretary
Maintains the organization’s records, records board meeting minutes, and distributes minutes and announcements of upcoming meetings. Served since 2007
Dr. Sabrina Daneshvar received her Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University in Developmental Psychology. Her area of expertise and research is working with children and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders. She is currently a program coordinator for Autism Spectrum Therapies, working with several school districts and regional centers throughout Southern California. Dr. Daneshvar's research has been published in peer reviewed journals and she has spoken on the topic of autism at national and international psychology conferences. While autism treatment is her primary focus, Dr. Daneshvar has had experience working with other populations as well. Her training in developmental psychology and social services informs clinical programming for individuals from birth through adulthood.
Joseph M. Michaels
, Board member
Joseph M. Michaels has been active in all phases of multi-family development with an emphasis in affordable housing for over 25 years.
In 2000, Mr. Michaels joined Las Palmas Foundation (organized in 1991) as President/Executive Director. The 501 (c) (3) non-profit housing corporation is dedicated to helping communities rebuild for a brighter future by assisting low- and moderate-income residents with programs and assistance to address the critical needs of affordable housing. Las Palmas Foundation becomes an active partner in the projects they participate in, by including project and asset management as part of their non-profit duties.
Mr. Michaels’ real estate experience includes: the development of senior citizen and multifamily housing; negotiating land acquisitions; arranging and funding construction and permanent loans; marketing of investment projects; multifamily land sales; public and private syndication; land planning for mixed use projects; property management supervision and real estate consulting.
A graduate of Loyola Marymount University with a Bachelor in Business Administration degree, Mr. Michaels also received from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), the Certificate of Real Estate with a specialization in Finance. He is a licensed California Real Estate Broker, and a member of the National City Collaborative Board of Directors.
Debbie Malmberg, Ph.D., Board member (Co-Chairman of the Technology Committee)

Oversees the technician who provides the monthly maintenance of the C.A.R.E website; supports C.A.R.E.’s continuous on-line donation campaign and determines other social networks to fundraise through; suggests e-newsletter options; instructs and guides the employees on best methods to update the website; Educates board members and staff on technological advancements. Served since 2007
Debra Berry Malmberg, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor at California State University Northridge. A graduate of Davidson College, she received her Ph.D. in Applied Developmental Psychology at Claremont Graduate University. She has worked extensively with children with autism and related disorders, researching treatment approaches, developing and supervising intervention programming, leading parent education, and consulting with school districts. She has a wide range of experience with behaviorally and emotionally disordered children and their families. Debra has presented her research both nationally and abroad and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
Jason Stevenson, Board Member
Founder/President of Alway Clean Pools & The Pool Store
Mr. Jason Stevenson is the founder and chief executive officer of two thriving businesses in San Diego and is an active member in the local community. After starting his career in the United States Navy, Mr. Stevenson then moved on to the challenge of developing his entrepreneurial skills. He founded his first swimming pool business in 1997, providing pool maintenance and repair services. His business rapidly expanded and Mr. Stevenson and his team were contracted by several large property management companies, real estate agencies and the United States Navy for their services. Mr. Stevenson holds certifications in Advanced Water Chemistry, Advanced Diagnostic Training in Raypak/Pentair heaters and is a Certified Pool Operator in addition to extensive knowledge of the pool industry. Mr. Stevenson recently founded his second business, a retail store specializing in swimming pool supplies, accessories and equipment, contributing to the re-vitalization of the city of Lemon Grove. He is passionate about inspiring at-risk and challenged youth and brings the experience of being a business owner to the C.A.R.E. Board. Served since 2007
Krista Weymouth, Board Member 
Chief Operating Officer, Torrey Pines Capital Management
Krista Weymouth is Chief Operating Officer of a San Diego-based hedge fund, Torrey Pines Capital Management. She holds a B.A. degree from the University of Washington and has lived in San Diego with her husband, Stephen Weymouth, since 2002 .

B. William Navaja, Board Member (Co-Chairman of the Technology Committee)

IC Package Design Engineer, Qualcomm, Inc. 
A graduate of the University of California San Diego, Will received his B. S. in Mechanical Engineering and has worked as an engineer in both public and private sectors with the US Navy, City of Poway, Kyocera, and Siemens Inc. Will is an avid traveler and in his spare time can be found surfing, camping, or meticulously planning his next trip.
